Commencement 2014 Success!

Rob Kennedy-DTh
Sunday evening, June 22nd, Greenville Community Christian Church was filled with excitement as graduates and their families came to celebrate the completion of hard work and determination concerning their seminary degrees. Dr. Max Flynn, President of Covenant Theological Seminary hosted the event. In addition to the students walking across the stage Sunday evening, CTS had a total of 242 graduates for the 2013-2014 school year. This is an increase of approximately 15% over the prior year. CTS has experienced steady growth as we partner with ministries around the globe to provide a seminary education to dedicated students.

With guests from as far away as Canada and surrounding states, over forty recipients participated in the local ceremony held each year on the fourth Sunday night in June. Pictured at the right is Pastor Rob Kennedy of St. Petersburg, Florida with his Doctor of Theology degree. Dr. James Corbett, founder and pastor of Greenville Community Christian Church exhorted the students and audience with practical advice for "Finding and Fulfilling Your Purpose", the theme of this years' event. The GCCC choir also provided to excellent musical numbers for the audience's enjoyment.

Several of the well-seasoned area pastors and leaders were recipient's this year of the honorary degree, "Doctor of Sacred Letters". These included: James D. Corbett, Charles Andre Daniels, Rex Fleming, Carolyn M. James-Cooper, Judy M. Jennings, Paul G. Kennedy, LeRoy Spearman, Jerry Wayne Spruell, Paul A. Thomas, Susan Atkinson Tyson, Jesse L. Wilson, John Alan Zabawski. Many of these leaders have over forty years of experience in the Gospel ministry. Our congratulations to them and to all the graduates of the year 2014.

2014 Recap

Our national and international work continues to expand. Many of our graduates are growing into leadership by continuing to practice what they have learned and to train others. The report below is again, men and women of God who continue to grow, find and fulfill their ministry.

Our work with Dr. Grant Haynes of Global Frontier Missions had a number of graduates this year. They train their people in the Atlanta and Houston area, and then hook up with sending agencies to practice what they have been trained and then afterwards choose their duration of ministry and country. Through Dr. Haynes influence we had another Missions School added, Community Servants Mission Training School in Smyrna, Tennessee. From these two we began a Seminary Scholarship Program designed to help mission training schools to receive our courses at a greatly reduced price, plus offering our degrees for their students.

We are also working closely with CTS graduates, Dr. Bill Rountrey and Dr. Bob Tidd who are ministering to over 3,500 students in Cuba. God is preparing Cuba for revival and to reach the entire Caribbean through them! This year they had a large number of graduates who were awarded certificates, but could not afford degrees, which are only $20 each. Can you personally sponsor one student for their degree? Some can sponsor many. Use the card and envelope provided or go to: cuba.gocovenant.com.

Dr. Paul Roberts, President of World Mission Outreach Fellowship, our 2013 commencement speaker, also became a Facilitator working with us. He schools in the Philippines, India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, Southern Sudan, Myanmar and Tanzania. In the US they also have schools in Riverside CA, which had 24 graduates last week and 7 in Kemp, TX.

Last year our program was filled with many graduates from Kenya where our International Facilitator, Dr. Travis Riley, Director of Burning Bush Ministries will be soon moving. Their President, Dr. Joe Faircloth, has spent several months overseas expanding their ministries into other countries.

Comments & News

Covenant Theological Seminary has tremendously blessed me and expanded my horizon about ministry. Although I have earned other degrees from different Bible colleges and seminaries, CTS, I must say, is the best of all. CTS's curriculum is so practical that theological studies can easily be applied almost immediately. The course Seven Mountain Strategy I took helped me understand God's vision I had about starting a business fellowship ministry as an outreach. Because I am not in the world of business, (I am a minister of the gospel) and didn't know exactly how. But today I have the business fellowship started, applying biblical principles. Four businesses kicked off from the church the month I announced. Now I have a new outreach for business people besides the church itself. I plan to take it across the globe as I plant churches, crusades and conferences.
